Team Spotlight: Warwick Levey -Jnr Content Marketer
By: Warwick Levey
My name is Warwick Levey, and in January 2018 I joined Eventerprise in the Content Marketing Team. I’ve always enjoyed being busy, and on numerous occasions, I’ve been accused of being a workaholic. But, as the cliche goes, it isn’t work if you enjoy what you’re doing.
I grew up without much money, and couldn’t afford to go to college or university after high school. So I took a sales job and started studying at nights after work. I now have associates degrees in web design, web development, music theory, digital marketing and social media management, with diplomas in mobile app development, blogging, and content marketing.
Before joining Eventerprise, I was working as the Digital Content Manager and Head of Social Media for a national specialist retail chain, while simultaneously running, and teaching at, a private music school. It was a charmed and comfortable life; which meant that I was starting to get bored. Owning a music school has its fair share of challenges, but after over a decade of teaching, there were no new challenges, and I was starting to feel burnt out. And while working in Digital Marketing had some exciting challenges, I didn’t feel as though the work I was doing had a significant impact on the company I was working for.
I craved something new, something that would challenge me, and push to be better. What ultimately made me decide to pursue something different was reading a Quora article where a Google engineer wrote about why he left Google to work at a startup. He said that while he was well paid at Google, he didn’t feel as though the work he was doing had a real impact on the company’s bottom line. By contrast, every small thing he worked on at the startup mattered. It was at that moment that I knew I had a decision to make.
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” – Theodore Roosevelt
I knew I had to leave, but I didn’t know where I wanted to go. All I knew is that I wanted to work at a startup. After trawling various job postings, I came across Eventerprise and knew the company would be a good fit for me. I applied for a junior position in the content team, and three weeks and two interviews later I accepted their offer.
At Eventerprise my primary focus is on creating valuable, relevant, and consistent content, to drive traffic to the site and increase engagement. I am also part of team building new landing pages and am the SEO point person.
During the twelve-weeks that I’ve been here, I have grown more than I imagined possible. Everything I do is out of my comfort zone, but nothing is out of my depth. I have learned to challenge my established methodologies and have come to hate the phrase “That’s how we’ve always done it.” Eventerprise is a fully agile working environment where no two days are ever the same.
I have no idea what the future holds, but I know that the leadership team at Eventerprise still has a lot to teach me. Going forward I want to grow into a leadership position, and add as much as I can to the company’s bottom line.
