By: Guest Author

Finance Young Gun, Rene Van Der Vlugt, talks about his experiences and what he learned during his time working at Eventerprise’s Cape Town hub. Rene is a 19-year-old student who is studying business economics at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. He joined the Eventerprise team for four months to hone his skills in our agile, fast paced environment.

If you don’t have time to watch the video, here is a summary:

Why did you choose to apply for an internship at Eventerprise?

When I was applying for an internship I was looking for a young, modern company and Eventerprise is both. The fact that Eventerprise was a start up appealed to me because it’s an interesting phase for a company to be in.

What do you do at Eventerprise?

I work in the finance and operations department of Eventerprise so I put together reports, manage the subscriptions for the business, ordered consumables for the office and made sure they were delivered and oversaw the operational metrics of the team. I work with anything that has to do with money and numbers at Eventerprise.

What is the most challenging part of working at Eventerprise?

Planning and prioritising the tasks you are given is important because the environment at Eventerprise is fast paced and you need to learn quickly.

What is your favourite part of working at Eventerprise?

Eventerprise has a very open office and instead of sending emails to different departments for information, you can walk to the person you need to talk to and often the person is sitting right next to you. The office has a very open, relaxed atmosphere and I really liked that.

What have you learned since you have been here?

I have learned to plan and prioritise my tasks because not every task is as important as you think it is.

What’s your favourite part of being based in Cape Town?

Cape Town has something for everyone to do and you will never get bored. You can hike up Table Mountain, go surfing or go clubbing.

Anything else?

If you’re still unsure about whether you should come to Cape Town, just do it! It’s a big adventure and you’ll love it and while you’re here do your internship at Eventerprise, it’s great.
