Nelis studied to become a Professional Chef after he tried his hands on business, but soon realized that his heart was not in it. He went on to get his culinary diploma and soon worked his way up to become the Executive Chef for the Hops and Beans Group, Bistro manager for Woolworths, Executive Chef for Fabulate and Group Executive Chef for the Link SA Group where he focused on training other Chefs, menu design and front of house service training. After the launch of a a successful story-cookbook, opening of the first Theatre-around-food in Pretoria, radio and television appearances and food consulting, he decided to take his passion and grow it even further to make a difference in the South African culinary industry
